Ash filter / Cyclone Separator / Sawdust Filter for your Shop Vacuum

I build these units based on some pictures I've seen on the interweb, and by gosh they work pretty darn good!

I have been using the prototype 4 years now to keep the ashes out of my pellet stove. I did buy one of those ash vacuums before I built the prototype and that cost me $89. Have you tried one of these awful things? The problem with that is that it has very little suction to start with and after that the filter fills up and it stops sucking almost completely after every use! What a cruddy design. The directions say bang it on the ground to knock the ash off the filter after you use it the next time. Bang-Bang-Bang still useless. Anyone want to buy it??? Cheap!!

This cyclone separator connects between your suction wand and your shop vac and works as a filter for your shop vac. You just add a vacuum hose and you are good to go. The design uses centrifugal force to drop the ash or wood chips or sawdust or plaster dust or any other fine particulate matter into the bottom of the pail and the shop vac runs and runs without a whole lot of maintenance. I went almost all winter, filled this ~7 gallon pail with wood ashes twice, never emptied the shop vac doing the sucking (there was nothing in it), and only cleaned the shop vac filter once. Pretty nice, huh? You will need to supply an extra vacuum hose to go between the filter and your shop vac, but a lot of us have one of those laying around anyway from a old shop vac we had to throw away because the fine particulate matter got into the motor bearings and fried the motor (HINT HINT).

One more advantage. The cyclone filter is almost all made of metal. That means if you get a couple of hot glowing ashes sucked into it, it doesn't start your house on fire. It just goes out. Obviously I can't guarantee anything, but I suck up glowing ashes all the time and they just go out.

I will sell you one for $45 (plus shipping), but if you have an interesting item to Barter, I could be persuaded. Send me an e-mail with your proposal. Things I barter for include tools, things I can sell at the flea market, implements I can hook up to my Allis Chalmers WD, small wood stoves, pellet stoves and heating pellets. I'm also looking for a planer, a lathe, scroll saw, other small wood working equipment, morse taper bits, chucks, a larger size toolbox, etc. Float it my me, worst I can say is no.

Shipping in this link is set to $30.  That is based on what it will cost me to ship to most of the continental US.  The thing is 20 pounds and about 2 feet by 3 feet (It's a metal 7 gallon pail with lid that I get and recycle from Salvage Surplus.) If shipping is less than $30, I will return you the difference.  If it is a little more, we call it even.  If it is a lot more, I'll contact you and find out what you want to do before I ship it for more or offer you a refund.  Not looking to cheat anyone here.  I live in Waukesha, Wisconsin. if you want to buy one and pick it up locally, contact me, we'll work something out and there won't be any shipping.  I can also work out the exact shipping and send you an invoice, I recommend we do it that way.

Looking forward to chatting with you!

Cyclone Separator / Sawdust / Plaster Dust For your Shop-Vac

I build these units based on some pictures I've seen on the interweb, and by gosh they work pretty darn good!

I have been using the prototype for 4 years now keeping my basement clean. This cyclone separator connects between your suction wand (or your planer / shaper / circular saw / jointer / router) and your shop-vac and works as a filter for your shop-vac. You just add a vacuum hose and you are good to go. I can make them with 4 inch connections for that big shop need and connecting to your stationary vacuum system and I can make them with the 2 1/2 inch connections for your standard shop-vac. The design uses centrifugal force to drop the wood chips or sawdust or plaster dust or any other fine particulate matter into the bottom of the container and the shop vac runs and runs without a whole lot of maintenance. If you are running something that throws a whole lot of chips everywhere in your workshop for you to have to clean up, this is for you. It holds around 2 bushels of wood chips. That's about 3 average garbage bags all scooped up for you and you won't have to empty your shop-vac once in that time. You will need to supply an extra vacuum hose to go between the filter and your shop vac, but a lot of us have one of those laying around anyway from a old shop-vac we had to throw away because the fine particulate matter got into the motor bearings and fried the motor (HINT HINT).

This unit is made of a dense cardboard barrel with metal and plastic, so you CANNOT use it for wet pick-up and you CANNOT use it for hot ashes. It will work fantastic however for plaster dust, floor sweepings, and wood chips. Point the hose the right direction, flip on your shop-vac, and it's off to the races.

I will sell you one for $45, but if you have an interesting item to Barter, I could be persuaded.

LOCAL PICKUP ONLY FROM WAUKESHA, WI DUE TO SIZE OF ITEM.
